Designing Compelling User Experiences (in Higher Ed)

Presenting at HighEdWebDev 2007This presentation covers four information architecture methods I learned from the smart folks at MAYA Design, Inc and four user-research methods I’ve found particularly useful in my work at Pratt. Those methodologies are end-capped by taking a look at what makes an experience compelling in the first place, what nature can teach us about designing website navigations, and how sometimes, even when are armed with research, we just have to go with our gut and trust ourselves.

You can watch a video of the presentation as it was presented for the first time, at Duke University’s Web Communicators meeting. This version is somewhat different from the version presented at HighEdWebDev 2007, but it’s about 90% the same. You can also download the slideshow in PDF format [2.6MB] or see it below via slideshare. Please feel free to share the methods and anecdotes in my presentation to any colleague or friend who’ll listen. Send me your thoughts beck@becktench.com.
